What Is A Guardian?

Being a guardian to one of of dogs means you get to help us show the individual love and attention to one of our dogs. We want our customers to take home happy and loving puppies and that all starts with the adult's care. We depend on our guardians to treat our dogs as their own while we obtain the right to breed the dog at our discretion. You will need to fill out and submit the guardian application at the bottom of the page. We do prefer our guardians to reside in a single family home with a fenced yard, but it is not necessarily required. After the initial interview process, we will want to see your home to ensure our dog's health and safety. For those who are approved, there will be a signing of a legally binding contact between yourself and Diva's Secret Poodles and Doodles.

Benefits To You

You and/or your family will have the amazing opportunity to house one of our dogs as your pet in your home. We want you to love and spoil the dog to pieces and we encourage our guardian families to be as active and adventurous as they can be so our dogs live a fun, loving and affectionate lifestyle. We want our dogs to live their best lives with you and we encourage our guardians to send us pictures along the way to keep us updated on their lives. Once the dog has retired from their breeding career they will be spayed or neutered and live out the rest of their life with you as your forever pet.

Requirements

-Every person or family who interested in being a potential guardian must fill out an application and if selected, participate in a casual exchange of information about yourself and your desire to be a guardian.

-Live within 1 to 2 hour of our location in SW Oklahoma.

-Sign a legally binding contract

-Be responsible for all non related vet bills.

-Communicate: we love to get to know our guardians and their families and we prefer to stay in close communication. Our guardians are family to us and we're always attentive to our guardian's need to stay engaged and informed.

Grooming

Grooming is essential for the heath and comfort of our dogs. Both males and females should be kept groomed and presentable at all times. Nails should be kept trimmed, the inner and outer ears should be kept clean, we encourage some type of teeth brushing whether that be with a toothbrush or some form of treat that will keep their teeth healthy. Deshon is a groomer by day so we are aware that grooming and upkeep can be expensive so we are always here for tips and advice on how to keep the dog looking and feeling its best. Deshon will offer discounted grooms to our guardians. If you are outside of our area, we will require proof of grooming to ensure the overall health of our puppy/dog.

Housing A Female

You may have other dogs in the home but any males must be neutered NO EXCEPTIONS. Puppies can begin their first heat cycle between 6 mths to a year. We will never breed during their first heat, and possibly even the 2nd. That decision will always be of Diva's Secret Poodles and Doodles. Once you do notice the signs, which will be explained in detail, it is crucial to contact us. A heat cycle will last between 14-21 days, which varies between each dog. If we choose to breed her and it is successful, she will be pregnant for 2 months. She will then come to our home at the last week of her pregnancy to prepare for birthing her puppies. She will nurse them up until 5 weeks at which time she will return to your home.

Housing A Male

Our males will be utilized in our program until they are 5-6 years of age. Males can begin to sire a litter at 6 mths to a year. The decision of what age to begin breeding will be of Diva's Secret Poodles and Doodles. It is crucial to keep our dog away from female dogs while the female is in heat. Discussion on how to avoid situations that may arise will be explained in detail. If the dog is needed for breeding we will do our best to give you plenty of notice. They would most likely be returned the same day depending on the situation.
